QUESTION: What’s more important for our city right now: building new homes and commercial space or rehabbing/expanding/better utilizing our existing homes and storefronts?
RESPONSE: At a time when Rapid City is experiencing considerable growth, we need rational development that meets the needs of people of different income levels. I support rehabbing and refurbishing existing buildings where it is economically feasible, but we also need to accommodate new commercial and residential construction.
QUESTION: What is your perspective about annexation of the remaining areas of Rapid Valley? The city limit line is inconsistent. RESPONSE: This is an issue where I would like to gain more information including listening to the input of homeowners in the affected areas. The current city limits are inconsistent, but the annexation of land between Rapid City, Box Elder and the Airport has been controversial for many years. The city council needs to listen to all of the stakeholders.
QUESTION: If someone came to you with a proposal to build a new piece of public infrastructure in our city (road, bridge, etc.), how would you evaluate whether or not that project was worth implementing?
RESPONSE: With any new proposal, it is important to evaluate the credibility and competence of the proponents. I will listen to the expertise of city planners, attorneys and other stakeholders, and will consider the economic and environmental impacts of the project. Rapid City needs to protect it's quality of life and our clean drinking water as development proceeds.
